## Using angle symbol for polar notation...

Asked by:

I would like to use the angle symbol to represent polar numbers (phasor notation for electrical engineering. In other words, I would like to enter 10<30 instead of polar(10, pi/6). Also, I would like the results displayed with the angle notation. Is this possible in Maple. In the "other package" by PTC this is trivial. Even on a TI graphing calucator it is trivial. Someone please tell me it is possible in Maple.

For computation, Maple is great. For presentation, there is a lot to be desired.

Thanks.

## How to convert complex number to polar form with n...

Asked by:

Below z is made using different complex values on polar form, and I then need to express the resulting z on polar form with numeric values for length and angle. However, I had no luck using evalc, evalf, or other I could find.

How can I convert z to a polar form with numeric arguments like shown below ?

## Polar equations...

Asked by:

Hello

I will try to be as specific as possible.

On my Ti nspire it is possible for me to calculate polar equations like on the buttom picture with the settings on the upper picture. But when I try this in Maple It is not possible. I have worked my way try for two days now and it does not work for me.

Does any body know how to get this solved?

## Complex numbers in Maple T.A....

Asked by:

Is it possible to work with complex numbers in Maple T.A?

How could you for instance make a question where two complex numbers in polar form should be added. For instance (10<30deg)+(15<-10deg). I'm thinking of letting answers be in two fields, one for the absolute value and one for the angle but I would like to use random numbers in the two complex numbers to be added and would prefer to be able to use complex math in calculating the right answer.

## electrical circuit calculations with polar coordin...

Asked by:

Below is a calculation with 200 Volt and 100 Ω.
The output is 1 Ampere at -45 degrees.
This is useful for electrical circuit calculations, and I can get the right result on a TI-nspire.

However I can't make maple 2015 do it. It's resembling polar coordinates but I can't seem to find any info I can understand.

"((200∠0°))/((100∠45°)+(100∠45°))=\

1∠-45°"

below is the same equation but in a picture so it can be read by humans:

Hopefully theres some simple comands that can help make this easy.

Thanks

## Heavy handling with complex numbers in modulus-arg...

Asked by:

Dear Maple users

An engineering student asked me how Maple is handling complex numbers in polar form. He told me that his fellow students are using another CAS, whereas he himself prefer Maple. When making calculations with AC currents having different phases the other students were using the easy notation depicted in the first line on the picture below. Obviously here the angle (argument) is measured in degrees. I tried to perform the same calculations in Maple, but found it to require a very heavy notation: the other three lines on the picture. Now my question is: Does it really have to be that messy, or maybe there are some package, which will accomplish the task in a more neat way? I mean it is a rather common operation in the engineering sciences.

NB! Of couse one can argue about the educational value of using the notation of the other CAS! From that viewpoint they will probably not learn anything ...

## Systematizing calculations...

Asked by:

I need to make a lot of similar calculations and wonder if it can be done in a smart way in Maple. Microsoft Excel is perfect for this kind of calculations, because you can downcopy cells. I would like to do everything in Maple, if possible, though. I have a number of points A, B, C, D, E, ... , which all lie on various circles in the plane. For every point radius and angle is given, so actually you can say that every point is delivered with polar coordinates. I want to have their rectangular coordinates.

Maybe I could deliver their radii in a list and their angles in degrees in another list?

r:=[12,56,29,...., 78]:

v:=[15,45,75,..., 102]:

......

I need to be able to refer to a certain point thorugh an index. At best it would be A, B, C, ... , but 1, 2, 3, ... will be acceptable. So in the end I need to be able to access say x_C and y_C or x_3 and y_3 (understood as index lowered). I hope someone can help me do the task in a nice a efefctive way.

NB! Maybe you have a solution, which involve transformation from polar to rectangular coordinates. That will be nice, but please also tell me how it can be done from scratch, because I want to be able to know about handling many points at once for other purposes, when the function is not r*cos(v), but an arbitrary function.

Erik

## Plotting r = 1/cos(t) in polar coordinates...

Asked by:

In the (r,t) polar coordinates, the graph of the equation r = 1/cos(t) should be a straight vertical line segment but Maple produces junk. What is going on?

plot(1/cos(t), t=0..Pi/3, coords=polar);

The parametric version

plot([1/cos(t), t, t=0..Pi/3], coords=polar);

produces the same thing.

## how can I extract real and polar eigenvalue in thi...

I have a characteristic equation. some times It has polar roots . sometimes It has real roots and sometimes both of them.

I want to extract real roots and extract polar roots if they are.

for instance:

q:=m3*r^3+m2*r^2+m1*r+m0:

rot:=solve(q=0,r);

I want to know how can I use if in this part ?

## Analytical solution of 2D diffusion equation in po...

Asked by:

Hello,

I have been trying to compute the analytical solution of two dimensional diffusion equation with zero neumann boundary conditions (no-flux) in polar coordinates using the solution in Andrei Polyanin's book. When I use 2d Gaussian function as initial condition, i cannot get the result. If I use some nicer function like f(r,phi)=1-r; there is no problem.

Any idea why this happens? or any suggestion to compute the analytical solution?

Thanks!
