As a quick update to this still on-going problem I've noticed that the 'Greek', 'Common Symbols' and 'Arrows' pallettes seems to cause the major lags. Upon closing the above mentioned pallettes the lag is hardly noticeable.

Any with a take on this is much appreciated! :-)

the lagging exists even after the palettes are untoggled, yes. 
I'm visually able to see Maple load the specific icons under the palettes, which is why I reckon it might be the palettes causing the lag.
I'm just puzzled by this sudden change since the program ran absolutely gorgeous on OSX Mavericks, without any lags at all.

Hi Acer,
I've been running with the Java SE 6 package ever since the Yosemite upgrade. I've never had any issues loading into the program. It's the palettes within Maple that's causing me the lagging as described earlier.
