The following integral:

int(cosh(7/367*x)/cosh(x), x=0..infinity);

which Mathematica can do with a lot of effort (computation time) appears to hang my Maple interpreter after 30 seconds of computation! I find that quite worrisome. Can anyone confirm this? What is going on here?

It would be nice if there were a global variable where one could set the branch of the logarithm used throughout the Maple system e.g. in the calculation of the arctan function. If you use your own branch of the logarithm which does not match the branches used in the rest of the system this type of mixing will get unexpected results. For example, when we use the branch of the logarithm that has argument from zero to 2π, the arctan is off by -π.

Maple does know about this identity. I just didn't know how to bring it to apply it to the value of my integral. So I guess we can consider this thread closed.
