Question: strange behaviour with permute

 

I was wondering why the permute function in Maple removes [1,1]  [2,2]  [3,3]  [4,4]  [5,5]  [6,6]

for example:

 

with(combinat):
permute(6, 2) ;
Totalnumber = numbperm(6, 2)  ;

 [[1, 2], [1, 3], [1, 4], [1, 5], [1, 6], [2, 1], [2, 3], [2, 4], [2, 5],

   [2, 6], [3, 1], [3, 2], [3, 4], [3, 5], [3, 6], [4, 1], [4, 2], [4, 3],

   [4, 5], [4, 6], [5, 1], [5, 2], [5, 3], [5, 4], [5, 6], [6, 1], [6, 2],

   [6, 3], [6, 4], [6, 5]]


Totalnumber = 30

 

The answer should be 36 and not 30.... hummmm I find this a bit odd.....
