Question: PLU decomposition

Hi everybody.

In the help pages, I read that :

"This PLU decomposition generates a square unit lower triangular L factor and an upper triangular factor U with the same dimensions as A so that
                                A = P . L . U
.  The Matrix P is a permutation Matrix."

While looking into that subject, Maple offer me this:

"Get the PLU decomposition lower triangular factor Matrix using Gaussian Elimination"

Am I right to understand that Maple offer me to obtain the L factor using of course the Gaussian élimination?

If so, could someone offer me a more understandable phrase?

Thanks in advance.
